Sadness and anger
The death of Margaret Hassan in Iraq fills me with both sadness and anger. Sadness because I was hoping that whoever was holding Mrs Hassan might realise that she was someone who had done an enormous amount of good in Iraq over the past 30 years and considered herself to be Iraqi. The anger is at Bush, and to a lesser extent Blair, who has created the climate in Iraq which allows such terrible things to happen.
I do not think it is Bush’s fault that Mrs Hassan was murdered. The responsibility for that lies only with her killers. That the killers were able to operate with such ease is, however, solely the responsibility of Bush and his henchmen. It is there where we should direct our anger about Mrs Hassan and all the others who have died, and will continue to die, in similar circumstances.
